Mallet head + pole

Just have a few ideas , I think when I'm spending my time in Thailand , I will do some mallet head and bring it for you here to test . I think I will find some material to do a head as my Dad company do something with steel a lot ( stator +rotor ) so I may try to do something and hope it is going to be good

If you know some material that it's going to be useful let me know

Most polo mallets currently use 18mm diameter aluminium tube with a thickness of about 0.75mm. The head is usually high or medium density polyethylene (HDPE/MDPE).

I'm guessing people have tried this already, but it's worth asking anyway. What's wrong with canes -- like they use in real polo? They're flexible and shock absorbing. Could be very interesting to play with.

people tried bamboo, they lasted but eventually snapped (sooner than a skipole) worth a go if you want though

might work well with your small mallet head Salman....

From what I understand, horse polo players use cane instead of bamboo because it's much stronger. I'll see if I can find any cheap enough; polo mallets seem to cost £150+ on the net :-/

hey ive got a head and a pole.. im wondering where do i get a thread slot for the bolt to screw into t mallet end. the only way ive seen is the youtube clip from legit polo but i dont like how he drills the hole horizontally. was thinking of polymorphic plastic.. to insert into t pole then screw t bolt while its soft.. woud that stay strong? salman u used t polymorphic plastic before, how strong is it?

Just jam the nut down the pole and bolt onto that?

^This, also those eight inch things have had bad reviews.

Use a spoke to get the nut down the pole without getting stuck sideways, or I have a couple of bits of threaded rod from Chris depending on which nuts you're using.

Like this glorious image taken from LFGSS:

good to know cheers Rob. the power of advertising eh ;]
ah im not using any bolt yet Andy, just looking at options for now. cheers! whats the diameter of those rods? inner and outer that is. do they go inside the pole? i think the screw would be to big as its rather narrow at t end...

The rods are 4 and 5mm I think, you only use them to pull the nut through the pole and jam it inside, then you take them out, pop the head on, stick the bolt in and tighten it up. Does that make any sense?

6mm is popular too.

I think I used a 6 in the end and a bent coat hanger

I like 4mm and a rik shaft, the 4mm is a little too thin for the alejandro poles though.

My mallet's a perro with an M4 bolt+nut the head has yet to come off.

Doesn't the nut sit on the indented bit?

Couple of mm above, probably would be "safer" with an M5 but 4 is all I had.

whats the best place to get those rods/screws/bolts? halfords? B&Q?

snottyotter

Probably a little hardware shop or screwfix or suttin, I ordered m4 stuff online from http://www.modelfixings.co.uk/ although their page seems to be down at the moment.

I like to perpetrate myths.
On the 2 I tried the bolt sat on the indented bit, so if you want to cut that bit off then it would be too thin, maybe I just got a couple of thinner ones, maybe your nuts are bigger than mine.

Voidcore

maybe my nuts are bigger on the outside than yours but are the same inside?

It's possible.
