North League?

Hey guys.

I think this needs to happen. It provides means for a continuous stream of competitive games, and - hopefully - an incentive for teams to form and get better. There's enough players who come down to powerhouse to make at least 5 or 6 teams.

Here's how I propose it should be:

- Fixtures released every fortnight.
- Games can happen at any place and time both teams agree on, as long as it's before the next set of fixtures are released.
- The league will be based in Manchester, but everyone is welcomed to join if they can make the trip. (I expect interest from Hebden Bridge and Sheffield)
- Since teams will have one league game to play at a time, it can be longer. Two halves 10 minutes each, swapping sides in between? 15 minutes each? Discuss below.
- Games should be reffed, but that's not required if both teams agree.

Time wise, this is what I have in mind:

- Finalise the format and open signup by Saturday the 1st.
- Give 2 weeks period from then for teams to form and sign up.
- Immediately release the first set of fixtures. The first round will be 4 weeks long rather than 2, because most people will probably be busy with Christmas and the new year. It'll go back to 2 after that.

What do people think? Yea? Nay?

Sounds good. I'm in.

It's a long way to come for us non mcr players. Also expensive. The ideas great but it'd be good if maybe we could have two or three rounds lined up for each visit.

^ Good point. The reason I wanted fixtures to be released every round is to allow new teams to join half way through. I guess there's no harm in releasing 3 rounds at a time.

I'll chat with folk in Sheffield tomorrow to see if there's interest. Some of the holmfirth lot might want to come too. I'll see them on Wednesday.

I take it we're not mirroring fixtures (like home and away games in football). So if we 6 teams there'd be 5 rounds all together?

i think its an amazing idea, and have nothing negative to say about it, lets get it done

Great to see new players being pro-active and moving things forward. I think it's a great idea, happy to help out in any way.

As I said, if we could line it up for a few rounds per visit/per month,It would be more do-able. It'd be great if any mcr teams could travel away sometimes aswell to share the expense/hassle. Main disadvantage with fixtures outside of mcr is court availability. You guys have the luxury of exclusive use of the ph court. Sheffield not to bad on that front as there are other places to play other than Springfield .Also there's no plan b for when there's heavy rain in holmfirth and it'd be shit for anyone to come and it get cancelled. I'm sure Hebden don't have a covered carpark either( I might be wrong so don't quote me on this).

Yeah, ste. The idea behind this is that the games organise themselves, rather than being a monthly tournament. It's much much easier to get 6 people at the same place for an hour than it is to get 60 at the same place for a whole day.

I'll try to work out mock fixtures tonight and see what works and what doesn't.

The amount of travelling will really depend on the number of teams and where they're from I guess.

Assuming 2 rounds at a time and 4 weeks to play both means travelling once (if you get both Mcr teams and coordinate games on same day...) or twice if you happen to draw an out-of-Mcr team. I'm happy to travel, going to Sheff/Hebden is quite easy (for MCR) and could be coordinated with their regular polo days for extra games. Holmfirth might require a little more planning but isn't that much of a stretch.

Assuming 8 teams you could run the first half of this (or similar)

^ assuming we get 8 teams signed up, that'll take us into April. I think mirroring it to allow away fixtures will interfere with summer tourneys and other fun stuff going on. But worth organizing this earlier next year, starting play in september, so we play all sides twice, providing the team list hasn't doubled by then!!
