Polo Bike Histories

Tell us you polo bike history - what was your first real polo bike and how did you arrive at the bike you ride now.... add photos if you have them!

My first was a Surly Steamroller I got from Chan. It was cursed. First it (I) got hit by a car doing 50km/h, then my flat got burgled and it was the only thing taken. I'm glad it's gone and I feel sorry for whoever has it.

Now I'm on what used to be my commuter, a Langster lookalike made by Pinnacle. It's made of alumium, weighs like a penny, and I love it.

Oh, and they're both fixed.

My first polo bike was a black Fuji track, it had a 22t chainring and kool stop brake pads, great fun, good for polo, played fixed for a while, coaster too.
after that came a compact frame mtb with a 32t chainring, 8 gears and hydraulic disc brake
and after that a full sized mtb frame with gears, suspension, mudguards and wide tyres
and after all that came a dirtjump bike with 26t chainring 24" mags and bmx bars and kool stop pads(theyre goood)

i want a hub geared beastie with bashguard, cable discs and 700s

The glorious Bastard Twin, blessed Agnes, the cow print loaner was what got me started (innumerable thanks, Neil). 700C alu MTB frame with weird as fuck curvey chainstays. The forks hung to the left (as all good things do) and no way of fitting brakes even if they could have been forced to work - so it was the ultimate sliding machine :) Got bullied into trying clipless and never looked back. Got new Pompino forks and entered the world of stoppable biking - not to be underestimated!

Fixed and Broken broke himself beyond fixing so I sold my guitar (no-one seemed interested in buying the wife)to buy his DMR Trailstar 2 with On One ultra-manly forks (oh so masculine!), Avid BB5s on a funky bespoke dual pull lever (more travel on rear cable than front), Crank Bros. Candy clipless pedals and, most importantly, red chainring bolts. I go so much faster with those bolts. Ubersexy.

Now all I need are polo skills.

I found it went so fast I actually started to fly.

Yeah, it's painfully ironic that one cannot learn to land without first learning to fly.

That's not true, you don't need to learn how to fly to try sky diving.

I think it would be a bad idea for Chris to skydive with his bike.

I agree, but that wasn't what was said.

I almost did a bungee jump on a tricycle once. I just didn't have enough cash to pay for a second jump and still get pissed. My mate did go for it, a fairly tame exit but he did manage to crank it whilst in free fall which did earn cool points.
