Wheel set, opinions please.

Super dooper bestest 26" set up?

Chukkers, Salsa Gordo are both discontinued but were previously popular options

Mavic make good, strong rims but are a bit pricey. Halo make some tough, slightly cheaper and more brightly coloured rims.

Hubs - what you already have, Surly, trials hubs like Em's or Hope trials with a spacer kit on the cassette

My halo freedom have lasted forever and are light for the width, disc only though. There is the velocity Nobs if you want one designed for polo or a mavic xc717 for light xm719 for middle weight but tougher or 721 for tough but less light, only about the same as my halos mind. Lightest wide rims (28mm) I could see without going megapimp crabon MTB wheels were velocity blunt standards but they seem hard to source.

Keep Pedalling can get them or they are available online from BLB or anywhere that buys from the BLB distribution arm I can't remember the name of.

I have a Blunt 35, it s going to make my 29er bigger than it needs to be.

Most 26" touring rims are going to be pretty tough (Velocity Atlas, DRC MT19, Rigada's varios offerings) but on the heavy side.

I think there were a bunch of US players with Sun Rhyno Lite rims although I don't know if they're still on-trend or not.

singletrack bikes had halo xcd rims for about £20 each. similar to 717s.

Their website hasnt been working for me for the past few days. annoying as i saw some stuff i really wanted and now cant to order!

Yeah, I remember Sywia saying she could get them, but they are a bit pricey with only one distributor getting them from what I could tell. Would save me 130g a wheel but I couldn't see them holding up as well.

Thanks, founds some blunts. given me some direction to look. can some tubeless rims run clinchers?

Yeah, but they can be a pain to get on. I wouldn't go too spendy as they will get fucked. I reckon xm719s are a pretty good sweet spot between weight/width/strength/price.

My XC717s have been fine and none of mine were new. Most I paid was £20 for one, least was £24 for two.

I'm not sure how good the Blunts would be for polo, the walls are fairly thin, got a feeling they might dent quite easily if you took a mallet across the front wheel, not that you're using them with rim brakes but might be an issue depending on skinny/narrow your tyres are.

Save weight elsewhere, less beer, less pies.

No.

Fewer pies or less pie.

I am aware of my mistake but seem unable to edit my own posts for some reason...

This was in reply to clinchers on a tubeless rim.
I'd also agree about the blunts, I think they'd be sweet as they are wide and light but they wouldn't last too long, the weight has the be saved from somewhere and there are plenty of stories online from people assuming they are tough because they are wide and damaging them easily doing freeride and stuff, I think they were made as a wide XC rim.

if you wanted to go that route. ZTR > Velocity

still I'd say 717s, even though narrower are just as strong. my crests are starting to crack around the spoke holes.

SOME tyres can be a pain to get on and off tubeless rims, but kojaks are fine.

ZTR Crest 26" 32h: 340g but no eyelets.

XC717Disc: 395g, single eyelets.

its all about performance.

plus 717s are obvs usually actually just over 400g. so its a 50g+ saving and better tyre seating for reduced rolling resistance and comfort.

WTF is going on with my posts up there?

He's front disc only, fully on trend. Come on Rob, keep up!

Deary me, I am unobservant. I think I've spoken to him at length about disc brakes too. Get halo freedom discs.
